Empowerment of and research on marginalised groups: interrelated, but not the same

After protests from all over the world, a researcher group at the university Bremen, Germany, announced that the group will disband. The researcher group was dedicated to “Black Studies”, but never had non-white members. Critics emphasised that Black Studies is not only about research, but also about politics, so the composition of a researcher group and their ethnicity needs to be regarded as an important aspect contributing to relevance and credibility of such a group.
